The one you asked if it was quartzite looks like that. Can you see individual grains under magnification? Chalcedony one looks like that be me. Maybe someone can give more info. Don't use the notched blade with your fingers. Did you get a vise and guide with your saw? That would keep your fingers away from the notches. Sparking on high quartz rocks is common.

I don’t have jewelers loop or anything like that. I’ve been on the fence abt an optivisor. Right, I know they’re dangerous to digits, but ok with the vice-that’s good to know thanks! Just ordered today actually along with the fence and diamond dressing stick. It didn’t spark on the quartzite. It was the moss agate, if I am naming it correctly.

Green one looks like bloodstone Hmm interesting. Is it odd to have the white streaks? I’ve never seen that before on bloodstone.

If you use that notched blade while handholding those rocks, any one of those stones would likely end up being Bloodstone! Can't help you on the ID's...but that Moss Agate is a stunner!

The red blade is a very good blade and can cut almost everything. The notched blade, not exactly sure what it looks like, is good for cutting more perfectly straight because it is thicker and stiffer. The first rock in question looks like quartz, a little crackled. The second one is quartzite, and those type I really like to tumble, but they wear down easily. The third I would say is a really nice moss agate, and the fourth I think is also moss agate, but could be blood-stone, I'd need a close up view. An optivisor is a great tool to have. I have the same saw and I ordered the vice too, but I never use it. I run my blades at the max speed all the time.

The saw vice arrived today, so along with that and the notched 6” blade how big material can I cut? I’m hoping I can cut the bloodstone 🤞🤞🤞

The saw vice arrived today, so along with that and the notched 6” blade how big material can I cut? I’m hoping I can cut the bloodstone 🤞🤞🤞 Easiest way to check is see what the height of the blade is above the deck...that's the maximum height of a rock which can be cut in one pass. If you "spin" the rock, you can double that. You likely won't get a "clean" cut when spinning... I tried to look up the depth of cut for your saw...but couldn't find a quick answer. Looking at it, I'm betting about a 2.25" clean cut since it has a 5'8" arbor. Guessing on this one!
If you "spin" the rock, you can double that. You likely won't get a "clean" cut when spinning...
I believe I did that with the quartzite, I did not get a clean cut but I did make it all the way around, it was just…hmmm, unlevel (?). Not a smooth straight across surface.
I tried to look up the depth of cut for your saw...but couldn't find a quick answer. But knowing the rules of the trade with the blade is def helpful! So no taller than the blade - gotcha! Could it be theoretically infinite in length then? Or do I want the rock to never touch the back half of the blade?

rockinronda - That infinite question makes me smile! That's a great question. The answer is yes...and no. LOL Yes...the rock could in theory be infinite in length and the back end of the blade would make no difference. However...in reality, the answer is no...only because the blade would eventually wear down before you got to end of the rock...which has no end. It's also no because there is no rock with infinite length! LOL
