Came across a Frantom “stubby” lapidary machine today and the guy is asking $350. Not a lot of info on the internet on them. It’s over 50 years old that’s about all I know. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Did you see it in person or just online pics? If just pics, are there enough to get a good idea of the shape it’s in? Does it run or look like something you could fix up? Rock equipment has gotten so expensive to buy new that I think any time you can get some old equipment that’s functional it’s definitely worth considering. I don’t know anything about that particular unit, maybe someone here does, I’d judge based on if it would match my capabilities.

I’m a rock collector/tumbler who is interested in trying some lapidary but as you said it quite expensive equipment. I did see it and I could work on it myself. Looks like 6” wheels 4 of them I don’t have the knowledge to know the condition of them. Bearings seamed fine, motor if it doesn’t work I could easily replace. I just don’t have any knowledge in lapidary.
