The CFMS (California Federation of Mineralogical Societies) is sponsoring a COOP field trip to the Hauser Geode Beds April 19-21. It's something I really wanted to go to but don't think I'll be able to swing it. We're going into our busy season at work, bringing on a new hire that week and still trying to clear out my building. I'd have to take a couple of days off as it's about an 8 hour drive for me each way. I'd love to go there with a knowledgeable guide for a few days after how well we did on our own just poking around for a few hours. For those not aware of the CFMS is the group that oversees/supports most of the mineralogical societies in California. They are associated with the AFMS which is the American Federation. Along with collecting there will be talks on the geology, wildlife, etc of the area. The info sheet I received said, "This trip is open to all rockhounds who agree to abide by the AFMS Code of Ethics, the directions of the field trip leader and practice safe rockhounding." I'm bummed now that I'm coming to the realization that it won't work out for me. If anyone is interested in going let me know and I'll post further info.

I can only send my soul. But I hope something works out for you or someone drops off some stuff for you.
I am not saying I might be addicted to geodes. But there is the possibility

jasoninsd. That's pretty nice of you Jason sharing pics from your personal collection! I've re-evaluated things at work and I'm going to try to do this trip after all. Leave Thursday when I can get off, hopefully by noon. Drive 8+ hours and get there for a decent bedtime. Hound all day with the group Friday and Saturday, skip the Sunday outing and head back home. If I leave in the morning I can be home for dinner and a little recovery. I have to drive my wife and hour away Monday morning for a minor surgical procedure so I don't want to be too late on Sunday. My last and only other trip there I only had about 3/4 of a day in the field and I found lots of good stuff.

Great pictures! I don't think the bees were eating a chalcedony but I might be wrong?

Wow, the wildlife is crazy. Did you seriously find that tortoise out there or did someone bring their pet? And what were the bees doing around that rock? I really like the big stone with red seams of something running through it. We’re you able to take any of that home or are you not allowed to break anything up? Anyway, glad you got to go, looks like a fun trip.🪨👍

Killer finds and enough pics for a photo album! Glad you slayed out there and thanks for all the pics, it’s almost like we were there too minus the rocks!

Great pictures! I don't think the bees were eating a chalcedony but I might be wrong? I've added some captions to the pics. My hands were wet when I handled it and they were after the water. My new cell phone camera is really nice. Google Pixel 8 pro. The bee pics were great as I take motion pics so you can go through each image, which is actually multiple images, and pic the one you want. With one snap of the "shutter" I had my choice of images with 1, 2 or 3 bees in flight. Also helps with getting a shot of stuff like this where they're in focus. Wow, the wildlife is crazy. Did you seriously find that tortoise out there or did someone bring their pet? And what were the bees doing around that rock? I really like the big stone with red seams of something running through it. We’re you able to take any of that home or are you not allowed to break anything up? Anyway, glad you got to go, looks like a fun trip.🪨👍 You can see the captions above now. I actually saw 2 tortoises on different days. I spotted the one, the second one in the burrow was pointed out to me by someone that found it earlier. The bees were going for water. They were calling the green stuff with the red Porcelain Jasper. We had a blast but it was hot! Got out the guitars and sat around in the middle of nowhere drinking Peanut Butter Oatmilk Stout. I'm not much of a beer drinker but this was more of a dessert beer, and I'm all about dessert. The massive plate of brisket burnt ends mixed with onions, squash and potatoes wasn't quite enough for me! Killer finds and enough pics for a photo album! Glad you slayed out there and thanks for all the pics, it’s almost like we were there too minus the rocks! Thanks, minus the rocks and the heat, we shared waters at different times but I took a 40 pack and my brother took a 24 his was gone and I brought 2 back. Neither of us drank enough! Amazing pictures. Rocks, plants and animals! What is the greenish rock with the pick to the right? Thanks. Thanks Chris, they were calling it Porcelain Jasper. I say it that way because the Porcelain Jasper I've seen looks different. Maybe just a little different form since what I've seen comes from Sonora, Mexico.
