I did these ones up yesterday. I'm finding there are definately shapes I gravitate towards (so I have to keep that in mind when marking up the slabs) and I do like trying the inside curves more now. I realized I have another batch from last weekend that I never took a picture of. I'll have to bring those others back into work to get a picture. I take the pictures at work because I have a white desktop and good/available natural light. Q's Cabochons 4-15-24 by Quentin Furrow, on Flickr

Another great looking set. I'm trying to find some new shapes. Are you using templates? If so which ones are they?

Eighteen in one day...that's phenomenal! I need to clarify. I have a bunch already dopped up and ready to go (I like to do things in batches), so I picked these 18 and ran them from the hard wheels through the polish. I actually had 19 but one broke part way through.

I bought them from his site: Baldy Mesa Studios. I think they used to be called "Slabs to Cabs". He's got some shapes I really liked. I'm starting to branch out and modify them, but I wanted to start with shapes I knew would work and look good before I go free form.

Interesting because I have Heusler designed templates too but mine are the "A" series. Yours are the "B" series. The B set looks to have a lot better graduation of sizes. I've been kind of disappointed with mine because there is only 3 sizes of most designs and most seem to go from huge to just a little smaller than what I want. That, and a lot of the ones that are supposed to be symmetrical are not. The shield shape will have one side that's a lot flatter than the other. I've taken to drawing one side and then flipping the template over and drawing the other. On the plus side I guess it gives me 2 slightly different shapes.

I've been happy with these ones so far, but I do want to start making my own.

Thanks! It's true. I was still dreaming about getting a cabbing machine not long ago. Yes, I need to look into participating in some of the contests. I might not do the current one. I was really excited about cabbing up some awesome Laguna that I had, but I'm still waiting for it to be cut! My next purchase is going to need to be a slab saw...
