Actually this is our second batch, first was rocks from our yard, they came out smooth but not really shiny or anything. This is a bunch of carnelian we got through the mail. Pics aren't great: bad light and they're stills from a video camera. The rocks look cool, though! Here's the roough rock(dry): This is after the first stage (wet). I think we needed to leave them in longer here. Didn't take pics after the next stage, but these are dry after prepolish. I was surprised how shiney they were. This is after the polish. We'd added some raw rocks to fill out the tumbler; I don't think it hurt anything. I'm pretty sure the little cracks and stuff were there to begine with. After the second stage we started weeding out the ones we didn't like so much. Here they are next to eachother, after the second stage, after pre-polish, and then after the polished stage.

Excellent batch. It's nice to see the before, during and after pics. It's a nice feeling getting that first "wet look" batch. It only gets better from here.

Cool colors and a very nice shine which I am amazed that you got after putting rough rock in with it. You're better off to get some plastic pellets to fill out the load and help cushion the rocks from banging against each other.

You're better off to get some plastic pellets to fill out the load and help cushion the rocks from banging against each other. We did use plastic pellets in there, as well. However, we only had (about) a fifth of the tumbler filled with the rocks. I had read that if you have too few rocks (and too much pellets) it wouldn't work that well (i.e. the pellets rubbing up against the stones doesn't do the job that the stones rubbing on eachother does). So we weren't really sure what to do.

those are nice. Mine weren't nearly as shiney coming out of prepolish. It will be interesting to see if the polish does its job on any of them or if I need to back up. Anyway, congrats on an awesome first load.

Those look great spleen. Where did you order the rough from? I'm might get some carnelian some time, I like the colors in it. Got them (and some other stuff) from Rockpick Legend: www.rocks4u.com/I made the pictures a little bigger, but you still can't really see the details well. Most of them have little imperfections in them. Some are cleary on the outside; and I'd guess they would have been ground down if they had stayed in the rough grit longer. Some are more inside the rocks; I think on some, at least, these make them a little more interesting. I don't think any of this came from the rough rock during the polish stage, because the leftovers from the previous stages seem to have similar markings... P.S. One of the things that's fun about this is that there are so many questions about what will happen if you do different things... like it's not as simple as: do a, b, c; theres a lot of judgement involved.

Thank you for your pics. I'm doing my first batch of rocks ever so its good to see what they should look like after each stage. Especially since I didn't get the results I wanted and now have to start over.
