That one that looks like it might be Dino, i believe to be "oolite", its a simlar stone to poppy jasper, oor obicular jasper. BUt never got hard enough to classify as a agate or jasper. MOre like a Opaline. i believe. Somefolks alos call it "Fish egg agate" i have seen before. Good photos!

Hooray for Edog and KD! Love to see acts of kindness, and this board has it's share. Hurry up Srpingtime(in New York). KD, why don't you just do what Kim does, or did, install food vending machines in your dining room and put your saw and Genie in the kitchen. Oh, and your rocks.

at this point, Ed, i would question the structural loading of the upstairs (we live in a raised ranch), the hundreds of pounds of dead load is much safer on the concrete downstairs. but yeh, come ON Spring!!!!!!!

I'm glad the slabs made it ok. That orbie lookin junk I took to the Gem Shop and Gene thinks, and called it pet. palm root. I think Gemkoi is probably right though. Here is a link to some stuff just like it. rocksnpots.com/Rough/agate2pg.htmlI don't know what kind of jaspers those are, I got them in a 20# box from ebay. There is a chunk of pet. wood that I got from Xena also and the brown spotted junk is called algae agate. The tigereye is from when I stuck it in the oven for a few hours. Glad you like the junk from the trunk.. Thanks again for your box.

The way you know its Palm, is the cells will elongated when you slab with the cells. vers if you cut against the cells, resulting in what folks want in palm. the spotted look, this is the closest photo i could find to show the elongation, more atypical like any wood grain. www.texasrockshop.com/images/RockshopPix/Crafts%20Pix/Book%20End%20Pix/Bookends%20804/BE084%20Petrified%20Palm%20wood%20.jpgalso, Palm has more a "Tiny Speckled" look, vers a cellular look. Like connect the dots. Cycads, which are more of a condense Palm, more like a Pineapple, will have more of a cellular look. As allot of the wood coming out of Brazil the last three years have high cycad replacements. So you see people noting Palm, when its recall a Cycad. BUT who cares about details i say. LOL

The rocks are way cool, but I'm curious, in that first pick, what is the beige rubbery spiky thing on your windowsill? Dog toy? Or... ;-)
