2 very different cabs I'm finding it fun to work with some new stones I hadn't cut before, many thanks to rockjunquie for the opportunity. First up is a Thunderegg with beautiful plumes inside. To my eye it looks like there is grass growing inside the rock- very cool. I have a question for someone out there that might know. Inside the stone is a patterned area, that I have seen once before when I cabbed a thunderegg- what causes that ? It doesn't grind away, only as the scratches go away & you polish, it stands out more. It's an interesting effect. The second one, Indian Paint Stone, I found a challenge & was thankful for some tips that Tela passed along. I certainly know where war paint came from, as it makes quite the colorful mud.
The varying degrees of hardness made it tricky, as it was still cutting facets on the stone at 600 ! It's interesting as even at 50K & cerium it only takes a matte finish - but I like it- it fact I like it a lot. Thanks for looking, Patty

It looks like a fortification area.
Nice job on that paintstone- on both of them. Yeah, paintstone is a challenge.

Thanks Tela ! I guess I'd better read up in Dave's book on fortification in Thundereggs !

Wow! That grassy one is amazing! Thanks, Chris.
I think it was the first actual "plume" I did. It was such a contrast to what the rough stone looked like.

Love that Indian Paint stone. Looks like a disastrous meteorite shower.

Thanks, Chris Love that Indian Paint stone. Looks like a disastrous meteorite shower. Thank you.
Me too - I see the meteorite shower.
I for some reason see an ocean scene with a big ship & paddles.
My husband thinks I'm crazy, though.
Guess my imagination is getting away with me this week

I can also see a sailing ship and a mast, and maybe some cannon balls flying.
