Welcome from Southern Nevada.
Pics of the stone dry as well can help make some features more visible.
And more info such as hardness and density can also help.

Welcome from Missouri. A couple of the closeups makes me think it might be quartzite. Take a magnifying glass and see if you can see small sand size particles in the matrix. If so, probably quartzite.

Looks like iron stained quartz to me.

Agree with chris1956 looks like quartzite. Note the grainy texture on the closeup.

Could be, but I have never seen quartzite in our part of the state.

Huh? And here I have been blaming Minnesota for all the quartzite I find in northwest Missouri that won't polish. My apologies to Minnesota. Although I did know that the pink quartzite we find here I think is the same stuff you see at Sioux Falls, SD. Here is one of the pink quartzite bolders that I hauled out of a 40 foot deep gulley behind the house. People use them as yard art around here because most everything else is boring limestone. It is about 2' x 4' x 15" thick. Can't tell the deep pink color from this pic. Had to use the tractor and straps and chains to get it up the 30 degree slope.

MN has quartsite, but I have never seen it around this area. The western part of the state has mines for it apparently. That would be the MN/SD area.
