Went out this morning and was cutting out some preforms trying to see if I could cut anything that would contend for this months cab contest. As I was shaping out a preform, I noticed my elbow started burning. I turn the wheels off and start rubbing my elbow and looking it over and notice it red and starting to bleed. So I start looking around confused trying to figure out what happened. Now itโs starting to really burn and getting red. I thought a chip flew off and got me or something. Just about as Iโm ready to get up, I see a big hornet in my lap ๐. That son of a Bโฆ bit at stung me. Mustโve woke up that morning, flew in the trailer and decided to choose violence. And here I though inhaling silica was my main concern ๐

Some of their fangs are over a 1/4 inch long

By lap, do you mean like a flat lap or something, or do you mean after it was done with your elbow it was sitting on you, chilling? If it's the second, that's hilarious.
Hope you're OK. Where is the hornet now?

Where is the hornet now? In my lap. Like chilling on the crotch of my pants lap. As far as the hornet goes. I was so pissed off, I grabbed a pair of nearby pliers, picked him up with those, and shoved him face first into the 80 grit wheel. I generally donโt mess around with those things. But the fact he stung me minding my own business, I felt his death was fair play.

what a gutsy hornet. Nothing like having a rest on the remains of your victim.
The fact it made you bleed... ouch.

But it did put a cut on the skin and it was leaking. I never even felt it until I did if that makes sense? Nothing crawling on me etc. just elbow started burning

Yeah it makes sense. I didn't know I was bitten by a white tail spider until it burnt like someone had a lighter against my skin. And there was a bull ant climbing on my fingers I didn't know about until it stung me. When you're focussed on something, your brain shuts out minor distractions like wildlife crawling on your skin.

It is no fun to be stung by a hornet. Was it by any chance it didn't like your choice of the preform and prefer a plume instead?

Must have been working with bumblebee jasper.
Turnabout is fair play for the clearly departed.

I was once hit ass-end down by a Japanese hornet on my forearm.
Even with tobacco leaf treatment my arm swelled up from elbow to wrist for a little while.
Not as exciting, however, as the Honeybee that flew up my pants leg walking across the yard when I was a kid.
When I sat down in the car seat, I got up pretty quick...got out and dropped trousers....
But, neither one as bad as the getting Scorpion stung in my bed after midnight many years ago... but, I didn't die at the time.
Those stinging type creatures can let a bigger creature know pretty quick to not mess up their schedule...

Just about as Iโm ready to get up, I see a big hornet in my lap ๐. That son of a Bโฆ bit at stung me. Since you found the hornet in your lap, you should be real happy it stung you once! If a sting in the elbow hurts that much, I can't imagine how a sting elsewhere you feel!

I honestly had to sit and laugh after the fact about all this. The whole thing is pretty dang comical to say the least.

realrockhound Were you cabbing Bumblebee "Jasper" by any chance? Maybe the hornet was simply coming to the defense of a presumed relative.
