I cut the chunk I busted off today. Seems really hard and the colors are quite subdued. Too overcast today to take pics. Maybe tomorrow.

I just tested the hardness and the main material is harder than the #9 picks in the test kit. This could be interesting.

I don't know. It cuts fine and looks just like normal breciated Burro, but the pick would not scratch it.

I'm gonna go ahead and say your mohs pick may be faulty, unless there's massive corundum chunks up there. Just sayin... That stuff looks like it all came out of ash bubbles, so it may be naturally baked by the volcanic vents of a millenia or so back, but that still won't get you beyond maybe slightly over 7 for silica based.
