starting to spend too much on rocks
Started tumbling a couple of months ago but now have four tumblers. Very interested in the hobby.

Been watching Agate Dad YouTube and wondering where all those small agates come from. Do we have to buy them? Are they possibly available on Central Coast Ca where I usually do my rockhounding? How do we tell which are neat inside and which are just duds. I don't want a guarantee, just some guidelines.

While I think he may be from Michigan, I agree that he buys most of them. Heck a guy with as many followers as him probably gets alot donated from sellers/collectors to showcase. I feel like he's mentioned "so and so sent me these" before.

I know for a fact you can get Alimejo agates from Highland Park (at least as of last week). I think they're more fun than the Botswana agates that he tends to cut because on some lucky ones you get really good splashes of color. They're pretty small though, most smaller than a walnut or even an almond (in shell). hplapidary.com/collections/rough-rock
