Ever wonder how God made those awesome manganese dendrites in your favorite rock? Me too and I stumbled through the algorithm for I wasn't even coherently looking for this information but yet it was put in front of me and I had an aha moment! Check out these artists recreate dendrites in their acrylic paintings! www.forbes.com/sites/evaamsen/2024/04/29/the-physics-of-dendritic-painting/?sh=2560015e55e2I swear they are onto something looks like an agate\opal\jasper dendrite for sure and as we know our favorite solids started out as liquids so it makes since. We explore a 3d object on our rocks but sometimes the 3d object is made up of thin almost 2d layers. As seen in Montana agate cuts by the famous tom harmon. Any way geek on! Tagging realrockhound cuz I know he appreciates a good dendrite tag anyone else who might! I'm sure there's lots of us.

I could be wrong on this, but don’t they form when manganese fills the micro fractures in the agate, etc?

Maybe ones that look like lines and have obtuse / acute angles but the fan like dendrites and moss seem to be minerals mixed in the silica when it's still molten, how else besides hydro dynamics can explain the fan shapes. Towards the end of the first video their appears to be a dead ringer for fan shapes dendrites. realrockhound
