I'm fascinated by Archean rocks and one in particular - Komatiite, and I finally purchased a small chunk of it. I wanted to buy the larger one that showed more of the spinifex texture, but it was a bit outside my price range.

Thanks for that fascinating pdf about komatiites possibly on other planets! It makes me wonder about the 2 massive blobs inside the Earth's mantle.

That's pretty sweet, something that'll belong in a museum some day.

One of the first rocks that really got me into the hobby is still my everyday thing.

I think it's spinifex, but I've never had it officially Id'd.

I checked out your link to your post about your pendant, which is very beautiful. I agree that it does look very spinifex. I've gone down many rabbit holes on the internet looking at pics and articles about komatiites, and there are so many different styles of komatiite, including some that look like yours. I came across 2 other posts on Mindat from a person who found 2 rocks that also look a lot like Komatiite, and both rocks were found from Lake Michigan. I know there are areas in Canada that have komatiites, so I wonder if maybe glaciers transported bits of komatiite down there? Here are some pics of different komatiites from the web: (Pic 1 - I thought looked similar to your pendant)

I agree, I would love to have jewelry made of komatiite! And I'm not even a jewelry person, like at all, hehe. But even if I had machinery that could do that, I -couldn't do it! I feel like it needs to be preserved and loved. Although if someone else made jewelry out of it and was selling it, I would consider buying it haha
