Hello! I have inherited a thunderegg from my father after he passed away last year. I wanted to see if anyone could tell me a bit more about what the inside is. Is it agate? chalcedony? Are the white striations opal? It has sat on his fireplace mantle for 50 years and have always been drawn to the "United States" shape. Thank you for any insight you might have! imgur.com/a/9JCrttB

Sorry for your loss.
Also not an expert, but I think it could be agate because of the bands. Regardless, it's beautiful.

Succor creek thunderegg
Interior is a typical chalcedony/ agate. And that white is what they refer to is water line. It forms during the eggs interior being filled with minerals. There is also some slight fortification taking place

I would like to join this conversation, but I'm tired. You may have not said many words, but that image made every letter worth their weight in platinum
