Could be a bad one. I'm jealous that the borealis should be spectacular for some of you.

This will cause the northern lights to be visible as far south as Alabama this Saturday night. To see it you'll need to be in a dark place (away from the city and other sources of light pollution) with an unobstructed view of the northern horizon. It usually peaks between 10PM and 2 AM local time. www.gi.alaska.edu/monitors/aurora-forecast

The southern lights were great last month and they are predicting events will get stronger until the solar maximum peaks in July 2025. I would love to see an aurora.

Gonna be a massive energy wave that knocks out the internet 😂 Merchants of fear fishing for clicks. Only problem is it might be for real one of these days and how do we know what's legit? Ha, five minutes after I post this the net will probably go down.

Ha, five minutes after I post this the net will probably go down. Yeah, I was just being a smartass. With all the happenings that I’ve heard were supposed to happen over the last 4 years, I live in the I’ll believe it when I see it world, and then just deal with it when it happens.

It's good to check a variety of news sources to keep the hysteria in check. One (more tabloid) news site in Aus is focussing on how the storm will cause chaos (and even mentions a small power outage in Sydney last night, with the small caveat that it isn't clear what caused the outage but let's mention it anyway to scare people), while another website is all "yes, it could cause disruptions but more importantly, this is how you can see the aurora!" It's cloudy here again but at midnight there will apparently be a couple of hours of clear skies, so I might climb on the roof, if it's not wet. Stupidity like this is probably the biggest risk from geomagnetic storms

It doesnt have the energy output to trigger a carrington event, but one is always possible

It doesnt have the energy output to trigger a carrington event, but one is always possible From what I've read the Carrington event was the real deal and statistically it's bound to happen again. I wouldn't want to go through it but the silver lining in that cloud is it would probably stifle the news media for a few moments.

It's exceptionally rare and certain factors have to come into play such and direction the CME (coronal mass ejection) is projecting in. In thr 1980s, Canada got a taste. And it was rough According to research I have been personally part of, should a full blown event such as the Carrington event hit, it could take upwards of 30-50 years to recover. And that's north America alone. And there is possibility of even stronger events such as a charliemange event, which is a theoretical event well within the realm of possibility

Aurora australis. It was amazing despite the light pollution, even on a phone camera <3 I haven't checked the time lapse on my camera yet, but I was having lens/skill issues so it may be awful. And I'm pretty sure the neighbours now think I'm a friendly standoffish neighbourhood spiderman pervert

I was initially looking north hoping to see the aurora. I think we’re around 46° N latitude. Turns out I needed to look straight up. It peaked around 10:45-11:00 Pacific time.
