I've seen it. Is it mushroom jasper (rhyolite)?

I like it, Pat ! I've seen it. Is it mushroom jasper (rhyolite)? Excellent- I googled it & it looks right.
Maybe I can make some kind of mushroom pendant to go with it ? !
Thank you,
Patty

It looks like what I called mushroom rhyolite. Mine were from beaches with volcanic influence in Guaymas Mexico. It can form wonderful patterns but probably varies in the amount of silica and hence in its ability to take a polish and or undercut. Its fun stuff.

A nice ID confirmation & points to consider while cabbing.
I really appreciate your input.

Somebody seems to call similar-looking material "Soap Bubble Rhyolite". Thanks Pebblesky, Too funny.
I always say that Rock ID is difficult.
So many rocks have multiple names.
I guess if someone doesn't know what it is, they name it & then it becomes an alternate.

Soap bubble “jasper”. This is actually a highly silicified rhyolite. I just collected some from the location at Opal Mountain near Barstow. Where did you get it from Patty?

Thanks quartzilla, I got it in a box I purchased last year from RTH classified. I think the guy (bstone) is in South Carolina ? But I don't think he's on the forum anymore. Somehow I overlooked it and it was just crying to be slabbed.
So Mushroom or Soap Bubble !
I'd love to see photos of what you collected quartzilla, it's cool looking stuff.

WHOA !!!!! Those are really nice.
The orange lightening streaks are way cool, should make beautiful cabs. Yours looks more colorful overall - great score.
I hope you'll show your cabs after you make them.
Thanks for sharing, Patty

I will show them as long as I don’t completely embarrass myself by fouling them up lol, I’m still learning and only have a handful of stones under my belt. Thanks for the compliment on the stones, I was jazzed to find these with the bolts in them, they were localized to a small area and I grabbed a few and sent other members over there to pick some up too. The whole Opal Mt area has this soap bubble type stuff in varying qualities and quantities. Where I got the bolts seemed to have the bigger and better pieces. There are literally boulders of it there without the bolts, which is still really neat stuff.

They polished up nicely. I messed up the symmetry on the orange bolt one a bit, but they domed and girdled nicely. This seems harder than your stones though Patty, they grinded more like an agate so maybe it’s not quite the same stuff. The opal tried chipping when I trimmed it up but was fine on the grind. I do better with less symmetrical shapes lol.

They look great, quartzilla , thanks for posting them ! Somehow I bet, as with any material, different stones from different locals can vary.
I haven't cabbed my yet, but it didn't seem very hard when I cut it on my rock saw.
Guess I better get mine in the queue, so I can see first hand.
I do like your lightening bolt
