Well it's been a good minute since I've posted here regularly so hopefully I still remember cloudinary lol. But wanted to share some Texas petrified wood my daughter and I collected back in November. We made a short drive to Bryan/ College Station Texas to hunt for some bigger specimens of petrified wood than I find in gravel beds of San Jacinto river locally. I'd say it was a success! We searched a small creek and found tons of wood. We kept several pieces of wood from 2- 10lbs and dug out a 25lb piece from side of creek Bank. These are few of smaller pieces- The 25lb piece- Then when headed back to car my daughter found a small piece sticking out of ground a few hundred yards from the creek. But when she tried to pry it out it wouldn't budge. So we started digging and digging and realized she found a much bigger piece than she thought- didn't have the right tools on hand to remove it so we snapped a pic, buried it and came back cpl days later to finish the job. The log came in at just over 3 ft long and 110lbs ! We also found what appears to be a petrified wing of some sort lol The final haul - And finally, this butterfly actually came from San Jacinto river but just got around to cutting it and polishing it on wheels best i could so thowing it in. Thanks for taking a gander!

Hot diggity! Y'all hit the mother lode, but your daughter wins the prize. The wing, the first one and the white one are my favorites. I bet your daughter was pretty stoked to find that big one!

Oh, she was! Thanks! The first one and white one are my favorites too. And the wing. It almost looks like someone carved it.

Wow, cool stuff. Some of those are great just as specimens. Will you be cutting and polishing any of them?

Yeah I was surprised how much detail from the original wood was preserved. I'm used to only finding river worn pieces so was new to me as well.

From my experience the wood that comes from that area isn't very colorful or interesting inside for the most part. I've cut a few smaller pieces but not much to look at. Better suited for specimens I think
