This morning I was on my way to work and as I was driving up the grade, I spotted a big white goat scaling the rim rocks. It’s an extremely rare site to see. On my way back home, I was looking up the rim face and the lil turds still up there chilling. I took a pic of him I’ll post here later. It’s not great, but you can definitely tell what it is.

Is climate change causing the migration of this animal or is it food supply?

Funny how Fish and game has to justify their existence by "rescuing" a Mt goat from doing the things goats do.

Is climate change causing the migration of this animal or is it food supply? Nope. It happens. Their are a few established herds around oregon high in the mountain ranges. Every so often one will break loose and go looking for new territory. This one was heading towards the cascades.

Is climate change causing the migration of this animal or is it food supply? Not necessarily an either/or question.

How far does this goat have to wander to find a gravel pit in South Dakota?

From my understanding there are some established herds in the blue mountains in eastern oregon. And a herd around Mt. Jefferson. My guess this one came from the blue mountains and is heading to the cascades where Mt. Jefferson is. They have been spotted south of bend as well. Generally it’s not a common sight to see them around here though. As they generally live up higher in the mountains. It’ll be fine, and eventually make it to its destination. I know ODF&W does put collars or chips on some and track them. Very cool sight to see since it’s rare enough to see them where they normally live.

How far does this goat have to wander to find a gravel pit in South Dakota? ...approximately 1237 miles... We actually do have a few of them around the Black Hills...
