I suppose my flip phone and my 10 year old truck will frustrate this data mining.

I suppose my flip phone and my 10 year old truck will frustrate this data mining. Yup. Good for you! We have a dumb car.

I think it was, but I look at a lot of sites. I don't like drudge, but they get breaking news pretty quick.

The company car I usually use on my PT job is a cadillac, so GM. We also used to have company smart phones as well, so I used the cars bluetooth for hands free when messaging and calling the patients. Now that we are using our own phones, I have chose not to link my phone to it. GM doesn't need my data.

I think what he's saying is that you're increasing the search strength of a plagiarizing site rather than linking to the original article: www.nytimes.com/2023/12/31/technology/car-trackers-gps-abuse.htmlRewarding the thieves, so to speak.

End of article "The post Is Your Driving Being Secretly Scored? appeared first on New York Times."
plagiarize /plā′jə-rīz″/ intransitive verb To reproduce or otherwise use (the words, ideas, or other work of another) as one's own or without attribution.
To present another's words or ideas as one's own or without attribution.
This is from The American Heritage® Dictionary of the English Language, 5th Edition, (underines mine) so I am not plagiarizing either...

Lehto would likely/easily win a fair use case.
dnyuz would not. Cut and dried – copyright infringement. Theft in my book, aka a piracy in Folsom v. Marsh.

I hit a pay wall at NYT and don't intend to subscribe. So, I'm perfectly happy to read the article somewhere else. I think the caveat that the article appeared originally in the NYT is sufficient.
I sent this article around to friends and family. What has been interesting is the debate that ensued. The younger people didn't see a problem with it or, rather; they accepted it without much reservation as simply a fact of life and believed that if they drove well then their rates would go down. (Unlikely) The older folks were lambasting the guilty apps and were pressing the larger issue of privacy rights.
My grandson, in the email debate, said that his wife had one of the apps but got rid of it when she found out that the app recorded her driving the car even as a passenger. So, if she had her phone, as a passenger, she was liable for the driving habits of the driver. At least she was smart enough to dump it.

parfive my point was more in regards to the word plagiarism. When something of interest comes up with a NYT link, I always search the topic to read the story somewhere else if i'm interested, their track record on prevarication is not something I care to support.

The problem goes deeper than you can even imagine. I've mentioned electronics are my thing.. there's a huge uproar in that community regarding how your devices spy on you, from Echo's to smart televisions, and even those little robot vacuums! It's insane that most people aren't aware of how much their privacy is being invaded and used without their "informed" consent.
