I've cut quite a bit of sugilite and I doubt it's that. OTH, I can't sight identify it. I has the look of several materials but I wouldn't venture a hard guess without some physical/optical tests: hardness, refractive index, spectrum etc.

I'll guess burro creek agate. Good guess! I suggested more rigorous testing because the first thing that occurred to me was lavender Burmese jadeite. It also has the look of some Turkish purple "jade," in quotation marks because while it has some jade content, it's not pure. A couple of other possibilities crossed me mind. I've never seen BC in the rough but I hope to be looking at a lot of it next week.

gemfeller thank you. When I line it up with the stuff that was labeled sugalite, I can see it stands out - but again you're talking to a girl that is still trying to sort rocks by color. Bad girl! bad! See it in the far right corner, same same - different! LOL That's why I posted the sample, I was thinking it wasn't quite the same. rockjunquie - Thanks! I have other pastelite and burro creek, I'm going to put that on a note card and search in that direction. Thanks again!

I'm a total noob when it comes to "rigorous testing," though it is something I am ready to learn. I appreciate your time and input! Many thanks!

Sugilite varies tremendously in color, but is predominantly purplish or pinkish. But I wouldn't write an ID report on it without physical and optical tests. Color alone just doesn't cut it.
