This one has had me stumped for awhile. It was labeled by someone (not the collector) as Pink Charoite. All of the research I've done on Charoite shows a variety of shades of lavender, but not pink. So, I searched around some more, and found something that looked very similar called "Pink Petalite." I have also seen a Peruvian Onxy that looks somewhat similar. Anyone have an idea about this material? Keep in mind that this collection has materials from all of the world, so it could really be anything from anywhere!

Charolite is purple and from Russia the only place that I know of it comes from I have 2 small slabs
Pink petalite is pretty hard to come by normally faceters cut it generally for collectors not sure about cab material which that is not facet material big difference in the two It come in white, grey, pink and clear to
I think I would lean to looking at pink opal the major deposit comes from Peru and possibly on the Argentina boarder of Peru plus there are I believe 2 or 3 other locations it’s found at
I could look in my books when I get home if you like I can check petalite and even post Charolite to I don’t mind my books cover materials from around the world
It’s up to you it will be a hour or two before I get home

dreamrocks , I also have charoite, so no need on the charoite pictures. Knowing nothing about the material at first was what lead me to look up the ID because it was so different. That being said, I looked into the Peru - I like it! I saw some "Pink Andean Opal, common" looks like a very close match! I don't want to trouble you on the books.... That being said, I wouldn't hate it if you did....please please wink wink wink. Thank you!

I'm leaning on CA rhodonite.
ETA I had some wrightwood CA rhodonite in quartz that looks exactly the same. Very nice stuff and harder to come by.

Of course, it could be thulite in quartz, but I doubt it.

rockjunquie - I think the "hard to come by" is why its so hard to pinpoint the ID! That being said, I can put it aside with the others I have for you as a thank you if you want a piece of it.

rockjunkie could be onto something to rhodinote was one I was thinking of to but just couldn’t remember the name of it. Probably because I was to focused on finding Reishi mushrooms and yes I did pretty good still being a little early yet. Found others to go back to pick to

Thanks dreamrocks, I appreciate you taking the time to post the pictures! Usually when I have several answers, I write them all on a card with the piece and hope I find another one marked later

dreamrocks Those are very nice. Many years ago, before the prices and availability issues, a guy on eBay was selling highly chatoyant grade A grape purple charoite cabs with what looked like pearl swirls. Really gemmy stuff. They were like 25 a piece for big cabs. I bought all he had and thanked him profusely.

The smaller slab is pretty much spot on to your description I had to bid on them I bid on 5 or 6 of them and won these two I like them both too Thank you

Ok all the books I have gone through gonna have to disagree on rhodnite ok maybe not disagree Because every description of it lists it as being found in or with manganese also every one also states that manganese is also imbedded in the stone that’s for tribeunitedThat means manganese is black and mixed into the pink to reddish pink of rhodinite Had to did the big guns out for this one There is one rare exception to it a rare gemmy as far as pink opal I can’t find any pictures of it some books don’t even list it Oops that’s the bottom of a different book

Is it transparent? Can you shine a light behind it? That would be very helpful to help determine how gemmy it maybe verse opaque & translucent

tribeunited I didn’t post petalite do you still want to see it? I think we narrowed it down to rhodinite and not petalite

I have seen plenty of rhodonite without any manganese. The only other thing I think it could be is thulite in quartz. It doesn't look like any Andean opal I've seen.
Here is a cab of rhodonite in quartz that I have. Quite rare. Not the greatest pic, but in person, it looks like hers.
