I have seen plenty of rhodonite without any manganese. The only other thing I think it could be is thulite in quartz. It doesn't look like any Andean opal I've seen.
Here is a cab of rhodonite in quartz that I have. Quite rare. Not the greatest pic, but in person, it looks like hers.
I am not disagreeing with I said I think we narrowed it down to rhodinite Yes yours looks identical to the picture posted

dreamrocks, I had to re-read it at first, but then I followed where it led. Thanks so much lady! I'm very grateful you took time out of your day to help figure this one out. I thank you. Oh! Just me thinking out loud here.....hrmmm... If gemmy means translucent with good color, then when I see some with crystals formed on the rock, that's druzy? I had thought gemmy meant that you could see some crystaly gems on it...and druzy meant a sparkly gem hole. rockjunquie - thanks for all the help with this one too!

Gemmy is an unscientific way of saying "the good stuff". Druzy is the crystals, usually in vugs (holes).

There’s also material that I have seen from New York that’s also purple not as intend of a purple and has a silvery mica not positive it’s mica.
But it’s also rare from New York because I can’t remember why I think it was a mineral that was found while digging to build a building on the location.
That’s all I can remember other then its almost or very close looking to charolite
Somebody will chime in on that

I’m also thinking it’s Rhodonite. I have some with areas of pink that look exactly like that. Yours just doesn’t have any of the black which sounds reasonable that nature could create larger pink areas. Looks like an ideal piece to me!👍

dreamrocks - Thanks for that info! I'm going to keep my eyes out for purples and seek you out! khara - Thank you for chiming in. I appreciate your help as well! I hadn't considered that one for a Rhodonite until you both mentioned it. This is exactly why I'm so happy to hear from everyone. Thanks!

wow, that book is awesome! I like how it tells you when to avoid an ultrasonic cleaner, or what is susceptible to heat, etc. You've been super helpful, thank you so much!
