I don't know what this is, but it's strange! It's shaped like a mask, and it looks like black banding all around it. When you shine the light on it, it turns blue, but the light has to hit it directly. That's why I named this one, "A mask with an identity crisis," aka "chameleon mask agate." Someone knows what this is, I'm sure. Either way, it's pretty!

dreamrocks - She's breaking out the big guns! realrockhound - Are you sure it's not chameleon mask agate??? Dang! When can I start naming them?? I'm dying to find a Mexican Poppy named "Damele Poppy," which translates to, "give it to me" poppy. But for real, black skin agate. Thanks!

parfive - Sorry, I almost missed you! Is there a specific way to tell when a stone has been dyed?

Looks like a dyed Brazilian. ...this was my thought as well... Jason, most of these photos are dyed agates as noted. His has a more natural look to me.

It is a natural brazilian, the hexagonal spot is where there was a quartz crystal that was present when the agate was formed, with the agate growing over the crystal and closing the gap to the other side of the vug. This caused two pockets to form with the remaining solution dropped it's silica rich load in the form of quartz crystals. Nice slab and very interesting.

dreamrocks - I can't dop it, I don't know how! I'm sorry, please forgive me. Thank you for the time you took with me today. You've been so nice and done so much, I can't help but feel a little bad for putting you through the wringer on these. Thank you a hundred times! rmf - I like that explanation on the formation, no... I love that explanation. Thank you for taking the time to share that with me, I deeply appreciate it.

tribeunited here’s one of the laguna agates I spoke of. This is just the nodual uncut and what I was referring to about the edge (outside skin-rind) every agate outside skin-rind is different. Brazilian agate verses Mexican laguna agate this includes Montana agate to These are laguna agates uncut & in through. Once cut they reveal their hidden surprises inside.
