In many videos and articles we hear alot about prepping the interior of a geode in terms of cleaning. But what about the exterior husk? is there a prep thats done?

In many videos and articles we hear alot about prepping the interior of a geode in terms of cleaning. But what about the exterior husk? is there a prep thats done? Some geode exteriors have chalky, crumbly, or clay like coatings on them. I usually take a wire brush to them or soak them in a bucket of water for awhile to loosen the gunk up and then brush them. I do it mostly to keep the saw oil from getting gunked up faster, but occassionally there are geodes with a fairly thick coating, sometimes close to an inch thick and removing it adjusts where I cut in order to get even halves instead of one half being significantly larger than the other. I've also had a few geodes that fell apart after the water soak which is good so I dont waste time cutting junk, or worse have it break apart in the saw and damage the blade

I have a dumb question. After cutting, can I clean the exterior?

I have a dumb question. After cutting, can I clean the exterior? Sure! I just do it before so the crud on the outside of the geode doesn't get the saw oil dirty faster. If you cutting with a water based saw then it really isnt an issue.
