I have posted some of the blue quartz before but this one with the stripes is different. The top is a darker color than the bottom. Didn't notice that until I got to grinding. The blue quartz (looks like quartzite) came from the Rock Shed. Thanks for taking a look. Chris

Nice job! Interesting material, almost looks grainy from the picture but can also see the smooth shine. Did it come out with a pretty uniform polish /shine on it?

Oh wow chris1956 so pretty! The material looks similar to the aventurine a little bit (stripy/grainy and mica-y, not the color) Is it similar?

Nice job! Interesting material, almost looks grainy from the picture but can also see the smooth shine. Did it come out with a pretty uniform polish /shine on it? It is grainy because (I think) it is a quartzite. You can see the grains under a loupe. One problem with quartzite with larger grains is that sometimes, some of the grains will pop out as you are grinding and polishing. The white spots on the blue and the blue spots on the light reflection are where small grains have come out. The different blue colors are because of the underlying color, not the polish. It polished uniformily other than the grains that come out. Oh wow chris1956 so pretty! The material looks similar to the aventurine a little bit (stripy/grainy and mica-y, not the color) Is it similar? Similar in that I think this is a quartzite. I don't think it has mica but not sure what the yellow/gold stripes are. Chris, that's just freakin' gorgeous/elegant my friend!! Thanks. I liked the way the stripes showed up. I saw some of that stuff last weekend when I was there. It is kind of interesting material that isn't too expensive.

chris1956 - Really dumb question here - Is mica always a gold color. You can point your finger and yell "shame!" at me before you answer.

For instance the aventurine that I think you have probably contains chromium rich mica which gives it the green color (or so I have read).
