Those are really nice. I actually thought the area was fully closed down long ago. At least some is still being produced. Those ones with the white areas are interesting. Haven’t seen that before. Yes, it was shut down several years ago. But I've recently seen posts asking about availability of new rough so I thought I'd mention the closure. The material with white is one of several variations in the material's patterns. It works nicely for matched pairs or pendant-earring trios. Tony @idahorockshop ? Said the wilderness still allows for historic roads, like the one to the mine, are still usable. Did this change? We can certainly go into wilderness and collect stones.

Nice cabs!
They left a corridor road through the wilderness down to the river so the river rafting guys could still get to the river. The river is runnable during spring run off, usually for about 3 or 4 weeks, it is a fabulous float trip if you ever get the chance!
7 of the 9 claims that were on the South side of the river fall within this wilderness area. 2 of the claims are within the corridor but are so close to the "wild and scenic designation" Bruneau river that explosives are not allowed at these claims, therefore making mining very difficult and time consuming. If you did get some jasper out of those 2 claims the cost in hours per pound would put the new material into the hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars per pound. Last I heard the claim owner said he was letting the claims go because it is basically un-minable.

I'm not sure how much I really wanna put this out there but for my fellow rockhound friends I suppose I will.
I was at the gemshop in Cedarburg WI a week or so ago and down in there basement where you can rummage through buckets and barrels of rough I came across some goodies. Not a large supply by any means but enough for a good few folks to get some to work with. Someone with deep pockets could probably buy it all (which is why I'm hesitant to say!)
Anyways, they have: Bruneau jasper $20/lb Bruneau jasper B grade $5/lb Carrasite $15/lb
They even have a small box of morrisonite scraps/end cuts for $5ea
I've also gotten willow creek b grade in the past as well as passing on an incredible piece of blue mt jasper (would have been $100. 4lbs@$25/lb)
I haven't worked with any of the material I recently got yet but overall the material they sell is excellent quality!
Now obviously getting to the store in person allows you to select your own material but I haven't ever heard complaints from folks getting stuff shipped. I just hope no one decides to clear them out as this may be some of the last of this material readily available for purchase!
