Dang, they so cute when they're puppies. Look really healthy, too.

That's a big, healthy litter! Do they usually have such big litters?

The pups look cute, but Coyotes are a problem in our area.

The pups look cute, but Coyotes are a problem in our area. They can be a problem here as well. A lot of people's cats and dogs get snatched by coyotes. They even jump walls, snatch the animal and jump back over before the home owner can do anything.
We are invaders in their territory though.
I do worry more about coyotes than snakes when it comes to Jax though. I let her play and explore when we are out for the most part. When it starts getting close to dark though, Jax must remain right by me since the coyotes are more active in the early evening to evening.

Yup, you better not let them snatch Jax or there will be hell to pay!

I like coyotes. They’re cool animals. Only down side to them is when they start coming into developed areas. Being wild animals, they still gotta eat. And as some of you are aware, they will eat your pets. Where my parents live, it’s a lot of farm/ranch land around them. The coyotes will send one in and lure peoples dogs out into the fields away from the house, then the rest come out and gang up. Sad when you hear that in the middle of the night.

My Family had a cattle ranch in Northern Nevada. Heard the coyotes howling a lot at night, usually when they took down a calf. Had some cats disappear also though.

The rancher behind my parents has given us permission to deal with them when we see them out there during calving season. But I didn’t want to get into that in such a wholesome thread. A calve fresh from the womb is a coyote casserole served up on a hot dish if ya catch my drift.

Yup, you better not let them snatch Jax or there will be hell to pay! Been working really hard on training Jax to mind me, especially when I call her to come back to me or at least stop. Cattle dogs are super stubborn though, so still working on that after all these years. She ha gotten a lot better, but once in a while she gets focused and completely ignores me. When I walk her, I generally walk her without a harness or leash. Have had a few neighbors get pissy about that, but I explain to them that I need to know if we are out in the desert and I call her that she will stop and come to me so she does not go chasing after any coyotes if we encounter one.

We were out getting some rock once and as we came down the canyon of course Jax likes to run far ahead of me to look for dead things to eat before I could catch her. I had a bunch of rock I was carrying down when all of a sudden she was screaming bloody murder. I thought a coyote or mountain lion had her. I dropped everything and raced down the canyon. Found her caught in a coyote trap. Luckily it is illegal to use maim traps here, so the jaws were padded. It did not injure her, only scared her a lot Once I figured out how to release the trap she ran off to explore more as if nothing happened. I did take a quick pic as evidence if she had been harmed as I don't think these traps should be placed in public areas. I have stepped in one myself, but luckily it caught my heel, so no damage.
I cannot post Cloudiary pics on a quoted reply, so I will post the pic in the next post.

There are videos of African wild dogs doing this, including before the baby was born, like they were macabre midwives. It's hard to watch.
