I ran across this item the other day and found it hard to find any more information about lapidary band saws. Anyone have one? Used one? Or have opinions on them? I like the idea, and only partly because it's vertical footprint is far smaller than a rotary blade table saw. It also seems capable of making shaped cuts, impossible for a table saw. TIA. Linky

I have a Gryphon diamond band saw, but have not ever set it up or used it yet.

I use one. I modified a 9" woodworking saw to use a diamond blade and use coolant.
It definitely can pay for itself by the amount of rock that is saved preforming for cabs, or giving a head start on a carving project.
Here's a lizard I cut, as a carving project. When I realized it was too thick, I re-sawed it on the bandsaw. Works for me Patty

Oooo. Lizard! Great idea. I'm stealing that one. And if the tail breaks off in the tumbler, it will just grow a new one?

Thanks for the chuckle, Chris.
It seemed too obvious- I got an ID of "Lizard Stone" and it's softer than not - so it needs to be a lizard.
I'm going to try carving it, tumbling him sounds dangerous.
Hmmm, but I do have 2
