I have the KN 6. Just got an order of new felt pads. I have to pull the water valve loose from the front to replace them. Does anyone know what the size of the set screw for the knobs are? I cleaned out the gunk and it looks like an allen hex. I've tried 1/16 which seems to be too small and 3/64 which appears to be too big. My smallest metric wrench doesn't work. Help.........

I think we measured the set screws on mine as 6-32" X 5/32" long and a 1/16" allen hex key fits. I've had problems with the screws stripping out. I had better luck when we got a short NEW allen wrench.
I'm a little late, and I'm sure you already figured it out.
Of course, yours may be different.

Thanks Patty, I haven't figured it out. I'm using a ball end 1/16 allen and it seemed to small. I'll try a different wrench.

Truthfully, I had a hell of a time until I got a new allen wrench. But I think I said that already.

I ended up using a micro-screwdriver...that just "happened" to fit the space in the hex...

These manufacturers would be really smart to sell a small tool kit that has everything you need to do basic maintenance on their machine.
PS I’ve been eyeing new felt and now I’m thinking I’ll just put it off a bit longer.

I have removed my water knobs several times to change the felt pads. It did take a couple tries with different allen wrenches before I found the right one which I am pretty sure is 1/16, and the closest metric would be a 2, I think. Anyway, the first time I took them off it seemed like I stripped one of the set screws because I used the wrong wrench, but once I found the right one it still worked fine. Once I found the right wrench I keep it solely for that machine and close by so I never have to guess again which is the right one. Just be careful not to strip those set screws or you'll have a heck of a time removing it somehow, and then you might find yourself in Ace Hardware searching for the correct tiny one. I think it would be difficult to find an entire knob exactly the same if you had to replace the whole thing. I cut my own felt pads the first time I replaced them and they wore out in days. I used what felt I had, hence the green. The second time I positioned them differently on the rubber guides and they are working well. The new felt pads KN offers are much better than the originals, I think.
I like Khara's advice to the manufactures to include the tools needed, or at least the sizes you would need.

I guess I'm going to have to get a new 1/16 wrench and give that a try. I can understand the ball end of the one I have not working but it's not like there's a lot of wear on the one I have.

It might not be 1/16, but it fit into the 1/16 slot of the allen wrench holder, so I assume it was correct. The size is not stamped on it.
