cabby - I'm glad you asked. If you hadn't I wouldn't have seen how cool this one is!

I'm not saying it is...but Google "Siberian Amethyst slab"...
I'm tossing this out there because of the level of material in your collection...

jasoninsd I love seeing the direction others take it, and trying to figure out why! Makes me aware of a lot more options than I considered. I was leaning towards a brecciated Durango lace, but don’t know nearly enough about these things! Could you tip me off to what details took you that direction?

I was looking for an Amethyst with a dark matrix material...and ran across the Siberian Amethyst. There's something similar about the Amethyst inclusions that look very similar in both tribeunited's piece and the examples Google brings up. Also, the matrix in the Google pieces and TU's have a very similar golden/off-white tone to them. Just seeing those similarities made me suggest it as a possibility...

Those are exactly the same things I was looking at, but still looking for lace agates since I can make out some distinct bands (especially the bottom right of the first pic). I hadn’t even considered that it might be anything else! I have a LOT to learn! I do still think it’s a lace, but I need to learn to expand my options more.

The slab is beautiful no matter where it came from, but top quality Siberian is a very deep purple blue with red flashes in it when the light hits it. The Uruguayan amethyst comes close to the Siberian but is still not quite as good. It can have the red flashes in it, though. www.oldvirginiagem.com/collections/amethyst

tribeunited how/where did you find this piece? Google AI is telling me that Durango lace can lose its color if kept in direct sunlight, which is interesting. Anyone know if other lace agates are like that too? Seems storage conditions need to be taken into account for the ID, as well… Edit: after looking into it more I learned that amethyst fades with sunlight, which surprised me. Only crazy laces that fade are “color enhanced” ones… again, shocker! Is frickin EVERYTHING color enhanced these days?! I don’t know anything about your collection but the types of pieces I’m seeing so far seems like older stock so far less likely to be treated materials.

I have a slab that was gift that was called Amethyst Lace Agate. It doesn't look anything like this. Of course, I'm not sure what mine really is either but it's beautiful.

Judging by an image search it looks like amethyst lace and chevron amethyst are the same thing. Either way- it looks brecciated.

Trying to think outside the box a bit… when comparing the backlit photos to the other ones, it looks like the amethyst had a short dense layer then a layer of larger, lighter colored crystals that are pretty well defined. Just throwing this out there…. Could this be brecciated amethyst geode? Those can sometimes have some bands, but not many (like this sample) and would explain the well formed crystals as well as the various shapes and sizes, I think.

Quotes realrockhound - "I'm pretty sure that's just some crap like the gravel I ran over in my driveway... I got about 10 kilos on the property that I chuck at tweekers and hobos...." I'm kidding...sorry it was hard to resist! You know we love you.... You know what I mean. And I know you’re just giving me crap 😂 I wasn’t saying it’s crap, just that it’s a different style than what we’re accustomed to seeing. That’s the thing with all materials. Just because there tends to be a similarity between most all material that’s dug from a deposit, it doesn’t mean there won’t be those oddball pieces that look different from the rest.,

realrockhound - awe, you didn't have to explain yourself, you made it clear that it was different not crap. I just couldn't resist yanking your chain a bit because you're so stoic and then you throw in jokes and it cracks me up. Sorry realrockhound! I'm going to simplify this response a bit and say to all - Thank you! I still haven't found the definitive answer but all of your answers have been incredibly helpful. I did a deep dive going through the 6000 photos on mindat looking for something, I'm not through with that yet. I did find someone in Estonia selling sinks made of what appears to be the same material, however they do not list where they sourced it. So since I can't call it a sink amythest... I'll still be looking in my spare time. I at least have some solid leads from all of you, Thanks so much!!!
