I literally fell on some steps while looking at a large collector grade Blue MT instead of where I was going. Don't worry, the slab didn't break, and my hip feels a lot better now. Elizabeth says I took the fall like a ninja. I keep thinking of Chris Farley's ninja when I'm picturing "Ninja Lee"! LOL *Sorry you took a spill...but glad you're ok.

Rockjunquie- the top three pictures should be my entry but I am missing the original flat.

Second pics look more orby to me. Why I opened that option up to those that dont have “traditional” orbing material was to allow others to use such material. I mean… it technically is orbing. Just forms a different direction if that makes sense?

I’m not going to be overly critical. My goal is to get as many entrants as possible with the theme.

There!!! Now that’s ORBY! Same effect I was trying to convey when you cut batcave.

Would an "orby" fortification as shown meet the contest rules, like an "orby" pattern in Bruneau o other stones? Neither meets the dictionary definition of an orb I found in a quick search: "A sphere or spherical object." There are roundish but not true spherical shapes in both.

If this helps anyone out, me personally, I know i'm shooting for something like what they call orbing in blue mountain jasper, bruneau, morrisonite, imperial jasper, etc.. If that doesn't play in my favor, then I might go the direction of cutting something with orbing that you see in lets say, luna agate, polkadot agate, gobi agate, etc. And as i've stated, i'm not going to go overly critical and limit anyone.

Like here's some polkadot agate. By definition those are orbs. Same in the luna piece. Those are basically fortification orbs upon close examination. That traditional circular pattern if you will. The royal eyes at the end, thats got more of your "traditional" overlapped orbing if you will. There's a lot of different materials out there that they refer to as orbs.

Last week, while sitting in my local rock club's meeting, the guy next to me asked what I've been cutting. "Well, the latest is a cab for a contest that requires patterns with orbs. I haven't started cutting yet, but I'll show you a photo of the slab with the cab marked that I intend to cut.
Whoops! Where's the photo?!?!
So I had to go digging in the trash to find (most of) the pieces of the Kabamby Ocean Jasper slab and reassemble them as best I could:

Some great looking entries already! Nice job on the MHPJ dshanpnw. Hard to find MH that doesn't have fractures! I really like to keep all my stones natural but I won't waste that material. I have a piece I'm working on for the last couple of days and I filled the fractures with superglue. I definitely understand people that don't want to do that though. Nice orbs victor1941. That shape is perfect for the pattern and way to squeeze the most out of a small piece. opalpyrexia that's a nice looking piece of Kabamba Gary. Good reconstruction, but the trash can? That's tumbler fodder! Looks like you coaxed a heck of a shine out of that.

Wow, what a show. It is super satisfactory to see the third pictures (part of the original slab).

Good cabs from everyone thus far. You’re all spot on with what would be classified as orbing through an array of different materials. I should have mine cabbed and posted by this weekend. Finally landed on a material to cut.
