Decided to start with a potentially easy one again. Thought I was being sarcastic about the “collection” but it looks like he DID collect as well! 😮 that surprised me!

Saw marks on this one are quite deep, makes it hard for me to see the details clearly. 1a: pretty sure this is another piece of the mystery agate I found in the box marked “red imperial jasper”. Really not a fan of this one! Looks like raw muscle *shudders* 1b: red imperial jasper and something that would be right at home in the blue thread 1c:

Probably Azurite/malachite copper complex. Could be shattuckite, though.

Thank you! Glad to see that it won’t look as yuck after polishing 😆

Box was specimens that he seems to have purchased as a set. I know the fluorite and amethyst, but don’t have any clue on the coral like ones til I do some testing. 2a: had two more unlabeled ones in the box 2b: I know I saw this in a book, but escaping me right now! 2c:

Red Imperial is beautiful! The one you said you know you saw in a book looks like desert rose crystals.

Smell? What does it smell like? Probalby not what it is but it reminds me of the jasper like material I find in Michigan. I think I may have found some like that here in Missouri also. Will see if I can dig some up.

I can’t pin down what it DOES smell like, but it’s not the same. The dryheads have a strong irony metallic smell and feel gritty. This rock feels smooth and the metallic scent is so subtle that it’s hard to pick out even when looking for it, and can’t pin down what kind of metal it makes me think of. Also leaves me with the impression of a sweet note, although I can’t distinctly smell anything sweet

This is my favorite piece from the second batch. I am also finding a lot of this stuff… wet iron smell is horrible but it ends up so colorful and metallic!

Is the outside of the one in the third pic down soft and crumbly?

chris1956 this one? I always expect these to be crumbly based on how they look and feel, but they are surprisingly solid. Might just be the specific ones I’ve found so far, but I’ve yet to have one crumble on me.
