Based on all that stuff stuck to it, I’m thinking slag. Never seen obsidian like that.,

Looks kinda like some stuff I saw a long time ago from a long stretch of a New Mexico lava flow... Snow Flake Obsidian maybe...

Took a look with magnification. Hard for me to see clearly with a migraine but the “bubbles” are definitely some other type of mineral, something matte light blue with a radial pattern. Also finding spots that are a somewhat metallic iridescence, mostly electric blue with a bit of bright orange red? Not sure what to expect either slag or obsidian to look like.

Can’t look anymore for awhile but when I changed the angle of the light the balls looked more of a lilac color and the iridescent areas became green and hot pink 😮

I went waaaay down the rabbit hole with this one and overwhelmed my poor brain! From what I can tell, it basically *is* snowflake obsidian, just with much smaller “snowflakes” and they developed in “train tracks” instead of speckled all over. Now I won’t be as upset when I keep finding more and more of it 😆 I don’t mind as long as it isn’t a “collection” of industrial waste!

More or less expect it to look like these examples, after slabbing the bigger ones.

Does look like snowflake obsidian, which has spherule crystals of whitish or grayish cristobalite (a type of quartz)

Does look like snowflake obsidian, which has spherule crystals of whitish or grayish cristobalite (a type of quartz) The spheres on these ones are so tiny that it looks more like bubbles in the glass until I used magnification. Realized it probably wasn’t slag but had NO idea that snowflake obsidian can look like that, so skipped considering it even though I knew it was spherulitic as well… wasted hours just to circle back lol

I have snowflake that looks like that. I also have obsidian with similar "attachments," although not snowflake.

I'm certain it's snowflake obsidian. I've picked up a fair amount of it myself.
