i had high hopes for this leopardskin that i got for Xmas, but, sigh....it didn't happen, despite my baby-ing the batch with a full week of SISA after the two weeks in 600 grit and i used TO for ten days too....oh well, not a total loss. the wonderstone i added for filler as i lost a lot of material in the overall process and that got a better shine than i expected. here is the platefull and yes, the lighting is pretty poor: a few close ups: and a few finished necklaces, too, first up some green zebra, i've posted the cab before, but not the finished necklace: and here is the finished Rose Quartz out of that gift box my friend collected in NC: thanks for looking!! Those don't look too bad to me KD. It's a bummer when batches you try so hard to do right don't meet up to your expectations. NEXT! Love the necklaces though.

I had an odd piece of leopard in a batch I just finished. It turned out crappy too. I love it but it seems to be a little touchy.

Awww, sorry to see your leopard skin and wonderstone didn't turn out KD. But the rest of the batch looks great. Maybe putting them into 1000 might help?
Love that Zebra neckalce!

Bummer about that leopard skin jasper, wonder why it's so hard to get a shine on it. Love your necklaces though, that rose quartz is really beautiful, such a soft color.

kd i didn't have any luck either with the leopardskin as a tumbling stone. i got a chunk now that i'm going to slab and try for cabbing. if that doesn't work either - it will be off my list lol.
best i could understand, it is 2 materials with 1 being rhyolite that undercuts and won't polish and the other being either jasper or agate (found conflicting info on that). it seemed to get worse in polish than it already was.

i forgot to say the necklaces came out fantastic. you really got a choice piece of rose quartz there with no fractures at all.

KD I'Ve found that leopardskin is pretty finicky, even on a diamond wheel that & porcelain jasper are not as shiny as other stones - maybe it's the type of jaspers :/

Welcome to the club of failed leopardskin tumblers! ;D. Actually, yours doesn't look too bad in the picture. And everything else turned out great, so I'd call it a success.

My strategy with leopardskin is DON'T use pellets until the very end as they would increase erosion of the spots & instead add polished beach glass shards as filler for pre/polish. Start with the standard AO & then finish off in TO or CO and THEN add a bunch of pellets and let it go for another week or so. I got my spots to shine OK this way but I had a mixed batch. If I had enough of it to tumble exclusively it probably would have come out better.

I've got the same stones I think, it was sold to me as snake skin agate but looks just like your leopodskin - having the same troulbe getting it to co-operate.

oh, it cabs beautifully, i'll probably slice some of these bigger pieces up for cabbing....at the moment i am trying to find good pieces of shiny larger rocks to make a set of chopstick holders.

KD I realy like the white whispy one on the 5th picture. I looks like the northern lights licking at a mountain side. I tried some leopard skin also, no luck with tumbling. When I get a saw I plan to cut some and cab it. I think with cabbing you can control the undercutting and get a better result.
