Soo many nice comments - thanks everyone for showing an invisible person some love. So we tried signing him up last night with a few hiccups. He wanted to post some girdles but we were having trouble getting his couldinary to work on his phone. I am going to try again tonight when he gets home to see if I can figure out what went wrong. We almost got there! In the meantime, I edited the original to add the names and numbers as requested. I'll come back later and at least thank the appropriate people if we can't get him straight. Special note to cabby and realrockhound - thanks for getting silly with it. I think those responses are what made him sign up, he really wanted to say something in response. He's as ridiculous as I am, so that little bit of humor made him buckle. Good job friends www.tapatalk.com is the best way to post pictures with your phone.

tribeunited I always use my phone for RTH. I switch to desktop mode (scroll to very bottom) when I want to add pics to my post. Not sure if that helps!

My cabs aren’t quite where I want them to be. But they have improved dramatically from the beginning. I’ve only been cutting cabs for around 2ish years now I think. And I average about 1 a month. Got a lot of great constructive criticism from members here that really helped me improve over night. Just adjustments of minor details that can take a cab from a zero to a hero.

Right now the only time I get a really nice shine on a cab is when I polish it to about 80% and then toss it into a tumbler with 8000 grit polish for a week . I need to get a buffing wheel setup and put it on a drill or something because the Hi-Tech buffing wheel doesn't quite make it at the moment.

Unless tumbling for a polish is your only means, I’d recommend not doing that. Depending on the stone, it smooths it out and can cause a once symmetrical cab, to become unsymmetrical. Also.. understand that different stones might require different polishing compounds. I’m lazy and just use cerium for everything. But I know that hurts me in some ways.

Advice is always appreciated, thank you. After looking at prices online, using cerium usually hurts in the pocketbook. I think I've aluminum oxide primarily but diamond paste that can be applied to felt pads on a dremel which is what I'll be trying next to smooth out a couple of test cabs that I've already started. I did also notice that when tumbled, the girdle usually gets completely wonked up. Everything's in the experimental stage right now but I want to get a process going before I invest in any cabbing wheels. If anything, a flat lap is definitely teaching me patience.

Great cabs and great photos! What type of machine is your husband using? And what type of camera for the photos? Thanks for posting and tell him he should join us!

Those all look great but I'm kind of drawn to the last one. She kind of has a bit of a Marilyn Monroe vibe.

He used the genie for these. The photos were taken on my cell phone which has a 12MP camera. Taken outside, no flash or filter or lighting, just zoomed in. They aren't great but they did the job! He's joined, he just hasn't posted anything other than hello yet. I think the part where he has to respond makes him shy away. It's like he feels like getting involved might be time consuming... I said take it at your own pace. It's supposed to be fun.... it is for me!!!

Then I realized there are alot of good people with like thinking minds! I'm still nervous showing off my work as I'm self taught and still kinda new at this. I got some old equipment in the early 2000's but didn't really ever get into it until about 5 years ago when I got a deal on a used genie. That has reinvigorated my lapidary endeavors! No rush for your husband, if he decides to post great, if not thats fine too! Hopefully you'll keep posting his work cuz its lovely to look at ")
