Hello friends! I was at the gem shop box and bucket sale yesterday and after 4pm everything was 50% off. I was able to score this sweet frantom combo unit arbor for $12.50!! Deal of the decade!!
Tldr: looking for a hood/pans for frantom combo unit or advice how to fabricate one
My question is does anyone happen to have a hood/pans they are willing to sell or know of an easy way to fabricate one. Keep in mind i don't have a machine shop of any sorts so would have to be something a different could do somewhat easily at home. If all else fails I guess I'll have to look for a machine shop. I would suppose the hoods are made of aluminum or plastic although the end pieces seem to be cast.
To be honest, I had hoped the arbor was the same length as the arbor for the star diamond gp8 i recently bought (also for a great deal). The gp8 arbor has more rust and I have been soaking it for a few weeks now, haven't even attempted it.
Aside from the frantom arbor being longer it also *appears to have a different style bearing as in the frantom bearings are mounted via bolting to the cast looking end pieces.
If the bearings are workable (arbor able to mount on the gp8 I may end up trying to use it as it will allow more wheels (possibly 2 expando drums.
Not quite sure what to do/approach it...either way, I need to get one unit up and running to mount the heavy sintered wheels on something with bearings supporting both sides.
Even if I can't interchange and use the longer arbor id love to get it setup and consign it for use in my gem and mineral society!!
Here is a pic of the gp8 for reference (I do have the hood for this one but I don't seem to have a photo of it)
