Does anyone happen to know where I could find a 4 inch leather wheel for my buffer? I must not be looking in the right places... Thanks.

I think you could make a cover (removable or permanent) —- similar to a shower cap.

miket the only thing I could find was what jasoninsd found. Were you wanting to use it with cerium oxide on stones?

Thanks my friend, that's the only one I could find also. Might give it a spin. Sorry, couldn't resist! 🙂

Out of curiosity, why is that one all leather? Just to make it softer so you can press on it more? I’ve used leather for stropping steel but never for stones, so don’t quite get it… also looks like it’s skin side out rather than flesh side, so wouldn’t the rocks end up burnishing the leather?

What jasoninsd pointed to is the only way to go. A leather wheel cover would have to include stitching, and the stitching would eventually fail. That could potentially damage the machine or cause injury.

That could potentially damage the machine or cause injury. I understand why to avoid something with stitching… The stuff I inherited includes wood wheels with felt pads glued to it. What’s the advantage that an all leather wheel would have over glueing a leather split (or a few layers) to wood? Might want to make something like that for myself since I have lots of leather, but don’t understand the purpose of the design!

Right now I have a ceium disc in my cabber, I was just looking to replace one of the wheels on my buffer with a leather one to possibly produce better results. We'll see! 😁

On top of it flinging the slurry off, you'd have to be really careful about the heat the friction is going to cause. If the cerium dries on the wheel it could burn your stone. Be careful when you try it and make sure it's dopped. Do not try to hand hold the stone against the buffing wheel and wear some eye protection so you don't shoot your eye out.

It's a variable speed buffer, I don't want to burn the stone and unfortunately I don't dop. Maybe it's just a bad idea all around, I don't know. I guess it could be a $20 mistake. And I definitely don't want to shoot my eye out!
