I made this piece this weekend and was thinking about making a chain to add to it after going down a rabbit hole on YouTube this weekend. I picked a simple single foxtail chain because I don't want to spend 3 days on it. Anyway, not sure what I think of it before I commit to the whole thing. I was wondering what you all thought. Does this chain go with this piece? Of course it will all be patinaed too.

BUT, you will never get your money back on the chain. I never made chains because I liked to pay myself.

For what it's worth, I think a Byzantine, Celtic Scroll or Figaro style chain might go better with the time period style of your work...

Thank for the reinforcement. I still want to make some chains, I saw some amazing ones, but I'll save it for special gifts. I've made chains for grins and giggles, too. But, I never tried to sell any. They just take too long. I have a friend who makes them and charges what she should on etsy 100+ and barely makes her money back. Gorgeous chains, though. I have a few. And, she's fast.
Also- copper is no good for chains. Too soft.

I love the focus piece! Wow! I’d use a simpler chain. Don’t want to distract from the star of the show.

Rockbrain, you should probably go on to learn to hand make the chains to go with your style of custom jewelry and look at better higher end markets than etsy and such... you are able to approach customers looking to acquire quality and they will have no problem paying for your talent if they want it. Once you get it down, precious metals are next.

I think I would like the chain if it looked distressed like the hammered frame...

Adding to Jason's comment- A hammered rolo would look nice and easy to do. It would make the copper stronger, too.

You could limit how much chain to make by just doing a short section and connect it with leather.

Thanks for all the input. I'm going to continue how I've been doing things and purchase chains. I just like to be able to say that we make everything in our booth. Patty liveoak , your design is exactly what I was thinking yesterday. If I really want to make a chain I can do a couple inches on each side and finish the rest with a leather cord. I think that might look better too.

I’m really impressed with the pendant. Really nice, very unique. 👍 On the chain I think I’d prefer one slightly smaller in scale, same size or smaller than the hammered copper, not bigger than it.

😂😂there needs to be a best of section on the forum for best posts ever. I was drinking coffee earlier today and I literally laughed so hard I spit it out when I saw that neck model. It came out of nowhere!
I have no opinions on chains. Just on that graceful neck model- like a swan isn’t it? A Viking swan! Skol!
