This is the nicest Mtorolite (chrome chalcedony) I've cut so far. It has wonderful translucence in transmitted light. Its vivid green hue is a reminder that chromium is the coloring agent in emerald.

That looks like you just dropped a smooth piece of liquid green glass in your hand. Really fantastic cab there! - Rob

Dang! That's beautiful! Thanks for sharing that - it's a material I own but haven't seen cabbed until now.
What I love about the material is the way the light shines through it green, which is what I believe you were saying about the translucence. I'm so thrilled to see it - it's much prettier than I imagined even! Thank you!

There's a lot of Australian CC currently on the market that has a much different appearance. I'll try to get a backlighted image to better show the translucence but my internet connection is intermittent and I never know when it'll go off.

tribeunited I think the color change is mostly due to the lighting. I used a different color temperature light for the last shot while the first was 5500K daylight.

Beautiful cab out of beautiful material. I think the white glove only adds to the classy appearance.

Nice, I haven't heard of that stuff before but I love me some African minerals!!
It almost *kind of* looks like some imperial jasper I've seen!

lapidary1234 The color zoning in this cab does resemble some Imperial jasper colors. But the material is translucent chalcedony, not opaque jasper. It's somewhat similar to chrysoprase in its best quality except it's colored by chromium, not nickel, and has a darker color. It was discovered in the 1950s but good material has been difficult to get, probably because of the political turmoil in the transition from what was originally Rhodesia, a British -controlled country, to Zimbabwe, ruled by vicious dictator Robert Mugabe. Some rough seems to be getting to the American market now.
