This is my freeform entry for the August contest. This cab was made from a Luna agate slice (New Mexico) purchased many years ago. I have also included a polished Luna slice from the last vibe tumble. The second picture is the top. This stone is shaped on a flat lap and polished in a UV-18 vibe.

Probably wont enter this. However people wanted to see this "solar flare" jasper cut, so figured i'd share it here just in case I had a change of heart in entering.

I made a free-form cab tonight. It is material I got in a trade. Supposed to be Mojave desert jasper but it doesn't seem quite as hard as a jasper and a bit crumbly like a sedimentary stone. Either way its pretty and a free-form!
Just went back and reread the guidelines for this. This competition. The one I was going to enter is a rhodochrosite teardrop or egg-shape. I didn't use a template but it came out very symmetrical. Now I see that we are supposed to be asymmetrical.

Bigfoot is often called Sasquatch, Yeti doesn't seem to care!

I had the same question. Guess it's a matter of interpretation/definition. I've always thought a freeform cab was one that was cut freehand without using a template even though it might end up symmetrical. But the rules are the rules. Guess it would be hard in some cases to judge whether a template was used.

That is funny. I was going to do a teardrop and then changed to something else.

I would like to believe that the entrants in each months contest have high standards and follow the rules. This should be a fun contest where all can enter and show what can be made for the same theme.

It is up to miket and tommy to make the call, and my personal opinion is that as long as you don't use a template, it qualifies as a freeform and mathematically it couldn't be strictly "symmetrical" anyway.
