Months ago, I signed up for my 50th high school reunion in Petoskey, Michigan which took place last weekend. Actually they had 4 days of events but I went to a very informal picnic type event Friday and then only slightly more formal event on Saturday night. Saw many people I hadn't seen in 50 years. Recognized a few of them but not many. Funny, that most of the star football players that had great hair when in high school were now bald. It was great to get together with the many I hadn't seen and a few of the ones I have kept in contact with.
Last fall my mother-in-law (age 92) fell and broke her neck in 3 places. She was doing ok until the beginning of the year when she had a stroke and had been in hospice since then. She had stopped eating about a week before we left to go up there (south of Grand Rapids) so we knew she probably wouldn't last too much longer. I had spent a day with her and the family and then left for the reunion in Petoskey. She passed on the day of the reunion. My wife had told me to go ahead and stay for the reunion. I came down on Monday and they had the service on Tuesday. She lived a long and very interesting life with four children who she raised after her husband passed away. Remarkably, she passed away 50 years to the day after her husband passed away.
While in Michigan I went out 4 times to look for rocks. I think I got about half a 5 gallon bucket full with ones that relatives gave me. Not a lot but a few interesting ones that I will try to post tonight. First photo below is Wilderness State Park and the second photo is the shoreline in Petoskey where I looked for rocks.
I also had a chance to try out an idea from rockbrain . I have 7 grandnephews (I think there are six in the picture but one is behind his brother and the other one is too young). I took a bunch of the small polished quartz and quartzite stones (recently posted on the forum) and got some of the small cloth bags. So they went around the table (taking turns) and each one got to pick two at a time until they had their bags full. Actually, they ended up each getting two bags plus a lightning stone. Anyway, it was a big hit.
Overall, lots of ups and downs but that is life.
