Hi all, geodes and cleaned and a new blade is one the way. I am requesting some advice. One of the rocks feels very light and I think the wall might be thin. What is a cutting strategy I could use to not blow out the geode?

You could try to do the rotate cut method that you see some folks do on Youtube. It's a bit trickier since you're using a tile saw which would be running faster than a lapidary saw (assumedly). By "Rotate cut" I mean you cut 2/3-3/4 of the way through and then gently rotate the uncut portion into the blade. There is a chance the saw might be too hard on the geode though so if you don't have a resource where you can use a lapidary saw, I would go extra slow and gentle.

Try mounting it in a cube of Plaster of Paris

Try mounting it in a cube of Plaster of Paris Ohhhhhh......that's very interesting. It will provide a buffer block and more area to hold?

The last package was about 4 pounds and the medium was 3 pounds.
No doubt its pricy but its my second foray into ordering geodes in terms of sources. The Nat geo stuff is crap. This one has good variety. Of course if there are better variety source i am all ears! I have to take a picture of the set. Its a mixture of Moroccan, Mexican and US geodes.
I know it sounds picky, but morroccan geodes are boring. Mexican have the best chance of being something interesting. Keokuk and dugway can be 50/50 with this selection

Yes, the plaster will help support the thin, fragile wall of the geode. Here's a couple of pix. A natural example of a fossil clam geode embedded in mudstone. Lined with calcite and quartz crystals. Found as is tumbling in the surf.

I will give it a shot.
What are better geode sources I should be checking for good variety?

I will give it a shot. What are better geode sources I should be checking for good variety? Just wondering, the Geodes you have bought, were they guaranteed hollow? And what was the diameter range? Henry

All of the geodes I cut from them (This is my 3rd set of large and medium and large, 3rd not cut as yet) have been hollow. golf ball to racquet ball size, no actual dimensions. I will give them udos where variety is concerned and all have presented interesting surprises in terms of a new type every time

It was alright. The new blade was alright but my cutting technique only started to improve too late. Some had nice crystal inclusion but nothing that wowed me. I think I am an agate geode person. Here is the cut stuff
