Hi everyone. I started cabbing last month, and I thought I’d post a progress pic for anyone interested. It turns out it’s hard for me to call one of my cabochons finished! In the picture below, I’ve decided to declare the top three complete (for now). The middle three I moved back to the higher-grit wheels to try to improve the shapes and remove scratches. The bottom row is just some pieces I’ve trimmed from slabs and started grinding to shape. I’m having a lot of fun. My favorite parts so far are trimming from slabs and grinding to the approximate templated shapes. Those steps are clearly productive and do not require perfection, which is right up my alley!

Very cool, we are interested I like how you presented 3 stages. It's good you are enjoying it and making progress. When you get a chance, can we get some close ups of the finished ones? (If it isn't too much trouble)

Looking good! Keep it up! It is a rewarding hobby!! What is the black and green one on the left side middle row? I found a couple rocks that look like this on lake superior and am trying to get an id. I've heard everything from epidote, to chlorite, to "greenstone" (not chlorastrolite but more of a massive form of ancient ocean crust). If you know, please do tell

Those are looking very good so far. I've read that ovals are the best shape for beginners and yours are superb. Thanks for sharing.
