I have been dabbling around with silver filigree recently. All my learning is done from online tutorials, mostly YouTube, and I was a little intimidated from the user's reviews. However the learning curve was not nearly as steep as I imagined. I am not saying I have it conquered but I am pleased with my progress so far. Have a look.

Circle the wagons you freaking nailed those. 😜wow I must have missed that you tube video. Smack home run on those Brotherhill. Love the stones you used and silver work outstanding. I’m just wondering what the weight is on those? I have practiced with scraps and have put together a couple of ideas for the back of pendants but I need to reduce the size to get them to fit on the back. Keep up the great work can’t wait to see your next piece. Thx for sharing

Beautiful stuff! I really like the earrings. What stone are they? Did you make the balls/raindrops? I would have never put the copper bearing stone with the silver but they look great together.

johnthor1963Thanks for the metaphor-laden review😄. The earrings weigh in at just under 5 grams each. They are not too heavy but they are not comfortable for everybody.

rockbrainThanks. The earrings are imperial jasper. I thought about doing the pendant in copper. It may have turned out better but to be honest I didn't have all the material on hand to complete it in copper. I could have smelted the copper I have on hand and rolled sheet and drawen wire but quite frankly it is the least enjoyable aspect of smithing. I make the silver balls. It is quite easy, the process is called granulation.

Thx Brotherbill all most 5 grams each wow. I was guessing a little more with the rain drops you put on. I use 24 ga. for my bezels and the flat stock. I’ve only made 2sets of earrings and mine came in at 2.5 grams each. May I ask what ga. material you’re working with. I’m self taught and doing a lot of trial and error trying to find my grove lol. All joking aside work like yours is inspiring to everyone to work harder. Thx for sharing

Wonderful art, Bill. Your pendant is exceptional! I really like your earrings, too, but even more so had you used fewer balls.

johnthor1963For the bezels I use 28g fine silver on everything except rings. On rings I use 28g sterling. The backplates on earrings are 28g sterling. The backplates on pendants are 22g sterling. The filigree wire is made from 3 strands of 24g fine silver wire. Hope that helps. Shoot me a PM anytime if you questions.

OMG! That pendant is amazing! The silver somehow makes the copper POP. Nice work. Looks like you got it!
