I have some in the mix and it's like flipping a coin. Fun stuff to play around with though...

Hey Chris1956 those look great and you did those in a mini sonic awesome. My last batch had some in it, and I have rebel 17 and I thought I screwed something up but I think you summed it up perfectly hit or miss. The good ones were great then there’s the rest. None the less fun. Thx for sharing you made me feel better about mine with hit or miss lol thx

I slabbed some of this material and was pretty disappointed with what I had to work with...so I get the "flip of the coin" with results...

I was thinking today that there must be a method to slabbing that stuff. I haven't yet but have a few larger chunks and will be playing around with that in the near future.

I tried slabbing large chunks I have and it didn’t go well. I think it almost comes down to hand picking from large pieces and a lot of trial and error. I would love a road trip and try to harvest some out in the wild but that would have to be my next life lol rock miner. Thx for sharing

(**Trying not to sound bitter...but failing at that! LOL)

I just invested a significant part of my of my retirement fund (slight exaggeration, but only slight) in several pounds of "guaranteed" A-grade Sunset seam agate from Idaho's Challis Volcanics, directly from the claim owner. I can't tell a whole lot from the rough.
My new slab saw is scheduled to arrive Monday. I'm sure there will be lots of variation in quality, as with all agate/jasper deposits. Hopefully some will be great. More to come.
