Some of these have been sitting around for a while and I finished them up others I just started. The first three are ones that were done for the asymmetrical competition but I went a different direction. Larimar. I had a lot of issues with the edges chipping. I got them straightened out pretty well. These are pretty small. The first one is about 7/8" and the second one 5/8". Rhodochrosite, it's not as symmetrical as I thought! I think this is Amethyst Sage. Somehow didn't notice the fracture until quite a ways in. Hornitos Poppy next two. Dino bone Indian Green Tree Moss Agate. This one has a lot of transparency and translucency. Chevron Amethyst

Are those top two lairimare from somewhere in the Caribbean islands? Yes, it's from the Dominican Republic. I've heard that the government has let them re-open the mine and the price should be coming down but haven't seen any evidence of that yet. Beautiful stuff but a real booger to work with. What I have is quite hard but doesn't do well with vibration. I won't grind it on the 80 wheel as it doesn't like to hold up. I start on the 220 so it takes quite a while. Tried to cut it on my trim saw, which is a 7" tile saw. It just fell apart. The rough I have is like large nuggets so now I cut slabs on my band saw. Loads of fun!

Nice! The dino bone is fantastic and you nailed the amethyst! I wondered how the Larimar was to work with.

I have seen it at the gem shows and I thought it was pretty pricey if I remember right it was around $20.00 for a small slab plus the guy told me some pieces can be a pain to work with because some of it is softer then other pieces from the same stone
I like the pastel blue color and patterns

I have a box of slabs, but have not tried to work with it yet.

Nice job! Yeah all the larimar around nowadays seems super brittle. I got some rough off ebay and experienced the same thing. I feel like the stuff I got 20 years ago wasn't but I didn't really work with much of it back then just a piece or two. Maybe it was brittle and I just don't remember. But yeah I always skip the 80 grit wheel with my larimar. Its kind of incredible how much variation the amethyst sage has from piece to piece. Some of it has dendrites, some is purple, brown, white, etc. Its lovely material. I really like the hornita agate or whatever its called! Thanks for sharing

Hard not to ohh at the Larimar. Pretty stuff. But the "Indian Green Tree Moss Agate" looks like an interesting one. Thanks for sharing, Patty

Nice cabs! Larimar has always been notoriously difficult to cab. That is why the couple of slabs I have are still slabs and not cabs.

Sick set of cabs. The amy sage could potentially be ochoco sunset/ochoco dendritic agate. Same colors.

Very nice group. Congrats on the Larimar. One of the best and most experienced cutters I know, who learned the craft in the world cabbing capital Idar-Oberstein, Germany, throws his hands up in frustration when faced with cutting it. Taking a cue from him, I've never even tried. Maybe I will one of these days.
