starting to spend too much on rocks
Started tumbling a couple of months ago but now have four tumblers. Very interested in the hobby.

Just read in another post that used flat laps are readily available at reasonable prices. Where? I'm interested in a flat lap but don't want to pay the $649 for an 8" DP. Any suggestions? I would like to get a full lap machine when I make enough room somewhere in by house. Big house but too many hobbies. Suggestions please.

Places like Oregon and Arizona have tons of equipment while places like western ny where I am are a desert. The vib laps I have I scored by regularily checking places like ebay and craigslist. Facebook market place would be another place, but I dont use facebook. Also regularily googling "lapidary auction", "online lapidary auction" or "flat lap for sale". It took over a year to find the 1st one and at least 6 months for the 2nd, so it is not an exercise for the impatient! If you live closer to an area that equipment it will be easier

Flat laps seem to be the one piece of equipment I see both for sale cheaper than other grinders as well as being home made (while still looking functional).
Check marketplace or even the classified section here. I know I've seen people selling flat laps that are basically running of a Dewalt drill for instance!
