Felt good to get on the wheels for the afternoon yesterday - and have 3 to share.
Leopardskin Jasper Rhyolite , Coprolite & Petoskey Stone
Leopardskin Jasper Rhyolite
Coprolite: A fine & colorful piece of Coprolite-Thanks Randy RWA3006 Petoskey stone
I have to Thank chris1956 for the idea on the turtle. Once I saw his, I had to try and make one.
I was able to use my rotary tumbler to clean up and polish, after rounding over the edges with a diamond bit in the flex shaft. I think the turtle could have a better polish - but as a first try I'm pretty happy with it. No Petoskey stones laying around here in FL, but I was able to find some slabs on-line to buy. I might make his shell a little longer next time - but overall pretty cool. Thanks, Chris !
Thanks for looking,
Patty

I think the turtle turned out fantastic! The Petoskey stone is a very light colored one. Was it hard or soft? Almost looks like one that was silicified.

The turtles are contagious - it's a turtle takeover! No, seriously, so cute liveoak. I can see the allure of wanting to make them. All of these came out beautifully. Thanks for sharing them! Made me smile

It looks like the coprolite didn't give you too many problems undercutting. Nice job.

Thanks Chris, The Petoskey was soft, but not quite as bad as I expected. I avoided the 80 and just started on the 220, and it seemed to work out. I won't have a comparison until I do another one. And of course, next time who knows.

I did see a little undercutting with my strongest magnification, but not too bad. Honestly, I had been a little worried, so was glad it worked out.
Gonna try me some more
Thanks !
Everyone loves turtles
