Took a small road trip over Labor Day weekend up and around the Washington/Canada border. Neat area, hot weekend though...we dipped to 41 in the morning and hit 101 later that afternoon.

Looks like a nice trip.👍 I would’ve wanted to get in some of that water. Surprised the kayaks weren’t all rented out.

Very nice photos. I especially like the the building under construction, the one with kayaks (super neat photo), and the one with fog or smoke by the road. Thanks for sharing.

Chad...two questions...
1. Is the title of the thread referring to the pic ratio?
2. Are you finding the geographic location you're in now more or less pleasing than back East? (I'm not talking about the FAR East! LOL)

2. Yea, kind of. It's almost always like a constant road trip. There are so many areas I've never put a foot on but seen a hundred times. In Michigan, you can drive a 30 mins or 3 hours and touch and explore within reason. I guess you can do the same here, but there are 10x the options, with 5x the crowd.
It can be overwhelming on where to go and what to see, but the variety in landscape features is pretty incredible. Take this trip for example....coming thru eastern Washington for the first time is an absolute trip if you haven't lived here.
Going up that corridor just east of the Columbia, up into Canada, is like trying variations of a new food.
Pleasing is an interesting choice of word. It pleases me, but not in the same way of the area I grew up for 40 years. You know the weather, the seasons, I was just getting to know the big lake.
There is more here...in the grand scope. Is it better, I'm not sure.
I haven't once gotten sick of seeing Mt. Rainier, Mt. Baker, the Olympics and such. Think dream world vs real world if that makes sense...

I'm not sure why I chose the word "pleasing"...I could have gone with half a dozen or more choices. I'm glad I went with that one though. I liked the real/dream correlation. It does make sense! When I lived in upstate New York for a spell, it was one of the worst times in my life...for several reasons...but among them was the geographic unfamiliarity. I lived in the Catskill Mountains...and couldn't see more than 250-500 yards it seemed because of the density of the trees and the rolling hills. You've been to my house here in SD...and (if you remember) I can see the Black Hills in the distance one direction...and I can see for 50 miles if I look to the East! LOL I was curious if the change in geography for you...which is a drastic change in my opinion...was tipping the scales to your liking...or if you missed what you've been used to most of your life. I know it might be too soon to know really...just food for discussion.

I think MI is a great state with a lot to offer, it's just different.
It's a certain kind of paradise out here, I feel like you could spend a lifetime and never see it all.
If you don't grow up on the lake it's hard to explain to others just how easy and accessible it is at all times and just how big it is.
I think having visited here first made all the difference. Had it been, say eastern Washington, or even (no offense) North or South Dakota, I'm not sure I could have left it behind.
I'm going back home for a week here in couple days, so I guess I'll see how much I miss it.

Son Of Beach 5x the crowd is an unfortunate reality here. I remember when that wasn’t the case. I hate to say it but, the population growth really has ruined many areas. I never go to Seattle anymore. I absolutely love the beauty here. But… we are seriously considering leaving. Not sure where to yet but it’ll be somewhere not so crowded. jasoninsd Good brain teaser solve. (16:9) 👍👍 I gave up.

Thanks Doug, I thought that was a building under construction as well, but upon close inspection, it looked like they had turned it into a bit of an art exhibit, at least to my untrained eye. I couldn't see anything that looked like current construction anyhow....

People are ditching the big cities and the high prices and moving to the smaller, more developed areas and are turning them into to little copies of some suburban utopia, it's feels like it's creeping into all of the option "B" cities right now.
I hope it settles down, we'll see....

Too quick weekend trip to Lake Wenatchee in North Central Washington. Took more than some convincing to get the GF to camp out near 40 degree temps. But we survived, I'm pretty sure it dipped to mid 30's overnight, love that kind of camping.
It's really hard to see in this picture, and I tried hard to capture it... There is a column of some kind of bug in line with sun, that we could only really see when you put your hand to block the sun at the angle we just happened to be sitting it. Best I can describe it was hundreds of insect that moved (for no apparent reason that I could see) in a kick, kick, float motion similar to that of a jellyfish. The just kicked up 2-3 times and floated back down, just in this column, at just this angle for viewing. I was memorized to say the least....
The underbrush and quick growing trees form forest fires or timber clearing were the only tree to turn color
