Bought this slab at a rock show, can someone tell me what it is? Also, the white parts (scientific term) are super soft, almost chalky. Thanks!

The shape of the white parts is called plumes, but no idea what mineral it is. Really curious about this one! The banding looks like crazy lace but never seen those plumes.
My uneducated guess (I am a complete beginner) would be something from chihuahua based off the combo of banding and inclusions, maybe an abnormal laguna? looking forward to input from someone that actually knows this stuff!

Mexican snow plume. It’s from the laguna area if I remember correctly. Fairly recent discovery

Thanks, I knew they were plumes and I knew it is an agate but after that I was clueless- and of course I forgot to ask when I bought it! I got some. Haven’t cut it yet. Probably won’t. Face polish and display.

I happened to obtain it from a friend, who just so happens to be a staple member here. Pretty sure he was one of the firsts to get it once it went into circulation. If I’m not mistaken, I think it’s a new discovery that was found within the last couple of years. I’m sure he can chime in with more info if he sees this post.

Yeah...RRH nailed the ID. I've been watching this material and pondering getting a slab or two. Mike, thanks for letting me know about the softer (calcite) plumes... Nice cab!

So I read this stuff fluoresces under light. Haven’t tried it yet. Might make for a great theme someday
